SHELLY E. NIXON
Shelly E. Nixon is an associate with the law firm of Lefkoff, Duncan,
Grimes, Miller & McSwain, P.C. She
focuses her practice in the areas of estate, business, tax planning and
tax-exempt entities.
She has particular expertise in estate
planning, closely held business transactions and tax compliance for tax-exempt entities.
Prior to joining the firm in 2008 Shelly practiced law for four years at
Morris, Manning, & Martin, LLP where she practiced in their tax, estate
planning, tax-exempt entity, and general corporate practice groups. Using
her tax background Shelly recently received multiple taxpayer friendly
Private Letter Rulings from the IRS as well as numerous
positive tax penalty abatement
outcomes, including one matter involving a national tax-shelter issue.
Shelly was admitted to
practice law in Georgia and Florida in 2004.
Shelly is active in
Georgia and Atlanta Bar activities and is a frequent speaker on legal
topics, teaching classes to lawyers, CPAs and non-profits on a variety of
topics including estate planning, asset protection planning, legal ethics,
and tax compliance. Shelly also was named as a 2006 Georgia Super Lawyers’
Rising Star in the area of tax.
Prior to her legal
career, Shelly worked as a consultant for Deloitte & Touche LLP in the area
of enterprise systems, business process redesign, and project management.
She now uses these skill sets to help clients manage and implement large
legal projects.
Shelly
received her law degree (2003) from The University of Florida, Levin College
of Law, cum laude, where she was the Title Standards Editor of the
Florida Law Review. She received her undergraduate business degree (1997),
cum laude, from Auburn University.
